Pre-Registration Preparation

Choose DE or TT

PCA-SDR offers two types of racetrack events, Driver’s Education (DE) and Time Trial (TT.) Driver’s Education includes some classroom components and on-track exercises and is the starting place for most participants. Typically, after completing two full DE weekends with PCA-SDR a participant will be promoted to TT student status.

Time Trial students will be assigned an instructor until their instructor and a Chief Driving Instructor (CDI) approve them to drive solo with PCA-SDR. After this point, as long as they drive with PCA-SDR regularly, they can register as a driver.

If you have significant racetrack driving experience, equal to or greater than eight days of racetrack driving (four weekends) in the last 24 months you may be eligible to participate in our Time Trial groups. In that case depending on our Chief Driving Instructor’s determination you may be registered as a TT student or as needing a check-ride before solo driving. To determine your eligibility message [email protected] and give us information about your driving experience in the past 24 months:

For each event list:

Event organizer

Track name

Direction (CW or CCW)

How many days driven

Lap time (if known)

Have you ever had a race license?

Our CDIs will attempt to place you in the appropriate group and assign a check-ride or instructor as they deem necessary. Our organization is very safety conscious, so we ask for your understanding with group placement and solo status.

Classify Your Car

If you are driving in a DE with a completely stock car you can register for our DE1 class and skip classification. All participants in the TT groups need to have their car classified with the current season rules or have submitted a car safety equipment calculator spreadsheet, even if they are not competing in timed runs.

Porsche Cars

Classifying your car is done on the Zone 8 Car Classification webpage: https://classification.zone8.org/ You will need to create an account on the Zone 8 Car Classification website.

Please use your name as it appears on the credit card you will use to pay for the event both for your account on the Zone 8 Car Classification site as well as your MotorsportReg account.

If you do not receive the confirmation e-mail after registering on the Zone 8 Car Classification site there may be an issue with your e-mail receiving the messages from the website, please reach out to [email protected] so we can assist you or contact the Zone 8 Webmaster https://www.zone8.org/contacts/contact.php?club=1&position=12

After creating an account and logging in to the Zone 8 site click on Dashboard (upper right)

Then click on My Cars (upper left of center)

Then click on Add Car (upper right)

Answer the questions about your car, paying careful attention to all options.

Some questions people tend to get stuck on:

Section Width of Tire

The section width of your tire front or rear is a number embossed on the sidewall. For my car, my front tires are labeled 245/35R18. Of that string, 245 is the section width in millimeters.

INSERT PICTURE

Lowest DOT treadwear rating

This is a measure of how long the tread lasts, my car is embossed 200TW

INSERT PICTURE

If you would like to run in a Street Stock Classes (and your car is eligible), please select or check these statements as appropriate

I attest that my tires are:

🔘Neither of the below is true

🔘N-spec or OEM and with a tread wear rating equal to or greater than 200

🔘Not N-spec nor OEM but with a tread wear rating equal to or greater than 201

Porsche OEM tires have a Porsche specific specification, “N-spec.” This is indicated with a capital letter N and a number embossed on the sidewall of the car. If your tires come from the dealership it’s likely you have N-spec tires. If you are not sure about the N-spec status but your treadwear is 201 or greater select: “Not N-spec nor OEM but with a tread wear rating equal to or greater than 201”

If you are not sure how to answer this, select “Neither of the below is true.” This will prevent you from running in the SS classes, but won’t otherwise interfere with your classification.

Create MSReg Account

MotorsportReg has a two page initial registration process:

https://www.motorsportreg.com/index.cfm/event/register.start

Our region sends informational text messages during events and you are required to have your mobile/cell phone number on your MSReg account. In addition, there are the required data fields indicated with red asterisks.

Add PCA-SDR to MSReg Organizations

https://support.motorsportreg.com/how-to-opt-in-to-an-organization/club-mailing-list

Our club is listed as “PCA – San Diego Region”

This will allow us to view your driving history for events registered through MSReg.

Add Car Info to MSReg

Our DE/TT events will collect information about the vehicle you plan to use when driving with us.

https://support.motorsportreg.com/how-do-i-add-or-edit-my-vehicles

In addition to the year, make, and model you are required to add:

  • Car color
  • Preferred numbers (List three numbers, of three digits length. We will try to match you to one of your preferred numbers. You will be e-mailed which number has been selected. If you have questions about which number your are assigned please message [email protected]. Please reach out to us before having numbers made)
  • Transponder number (If you have an AMB/MyLaps transponder enter the number here, otherwise leave blank. If you don’t have your own transponder you will need to rent one when participating in TT. No transponder is needed for DE participation.)

Timed Runs on Sunday

Timed runs are only available to entrants who have been signed off to drive solo in a TT. You need to have the appropriate page in your logbook signed by your instructor and a Chief Driving Instructor.

What is Your Entrant Status

Select Student until you have been signed off to drive solo in a TT and have had your log book signed by your instructor and a Chief Driving Instructor.

Zone 8 Car Class, Base Points, Tire Size Points, and Performance Equipment Points

These numbers are available after classifying your car or filling out the Performance Equipment Points calculator spreadsheet. See the section titled Classify Your Car.

Timing Notice Subscription

For most people select “No,” this will result in texts throughout the event with information being sent to the Mobile/Cell number you have on MSReg. If you are participating in the TT you will also receive texts with your recorded lap times. Since this is one of the primary methods we have to communicate with attendees if you block or unsubscribe from these texts you will not be allowed to participate in future DE/TTs.

Tech Inspection

You can take your car to one of our tech inspection stations or tech at the track.

San Diego Region Tech Inspection Stations

These businesses typically charge a fee for inspection. The fee charged is decided by the business. A list is available here: Tech Inspection. If your car is inspected by a shop not on this list you may be asked to re-tech at the track.

Most shops not on the list do not fill out the form correctly and may require you to re-tech at the track.

Tech at the Track

This option is riskier, with the possibility of failing tech and not being allowed to drive. For first time participants we strongly recommend teching your car as early as possible at one of the San Diego Region Tech Inspection Stations.

Bring a blank tech inspection form with you to the tech line Friday afternoon or Saturday morning. You need to fill out the driver information section, sign and date the bottom, and have the event date on the form.

Interpreting Registration Status

After the registration team has had time to work through the registrations your status will be changed from “New.”

  • New – Registration work has not been finished yet. If we have sent you an e-mail please reply to the e-mail otherwise your status will remain “New” and you will not be able to drive
  • Waitlist New – We are not currently able to get you into the event, typically due to a lack of instructors or a full run group. If a cancellation happens we will reach out and confirm you are still able to attend. You have not been charged.
  • Confirmed – You are in the event and we are looking forward to you driving with us. You will be charged after the event.

Canceling

To cancel the event cancel using the link on the MotorsportReg event dashboard. There are cancellation terms, but typically cancellation before the start of driving Saturday will not result in charges.
